MA 2010 General Election Endorsements

Governor/Lt. Governor: Patrick/Murray (Democrat, Incumbent) Cahill and Baker are terrible, Stein can't win.

Attorney General: Coakley (Democrat, Incumbent) I don't want to vote for her after that disastrous senate campaign. But I think McKinna's priorities (as listed by him) are terribly off. He'd drag MA into this illegal-immigration panic, scuttle Cape Wind, and try to undermine the federal healthcare reforms.

Secretary of the Commonwealth: Henderson (Unenrolled) I think Henderson would be a better advocate for transparency than the incumbent. Also, I really don't like incumbents that try to avoid public debate come election season, as Galvin seems to do.

Treasurer: No Strong Endorsement Grossman favors expanding the state lottery. Polito favors passing question 3 (which would lower the sales tax to 3%) on the basis of the assumption that the legislature would raise it again to 5%. After watching the debate, I don't really want to vote for either of them. I guess I slightly favor Grossman, but ugh.

Auditor: Connaughton (Republican) After reading candidate statements and watching this debate, I think she's better qualified and would do a better job. Bump would also do well. Fortune is well-meaning, but unqualified.

Question 1: NO Reckless. And if the idea is to remove "unfair double-taxation" on alcohol, wouldn't it make more sense to suggest repealing the excise tax as opposed to making a special exemption to the sales tax?)

Question 2: NO Don't support repealing the streamlined process for zoning approval for low-income housing.

Question 3: NO Super reckless.

(See also [livejournal.com profile] cos's take. His position is similar to mine, but he endorses Grossman more strongly, favors Henderson less strongly, and endorses Bump over Connaughton.)
