There was more than one family of ducks, some clearly born much earlier in the season than others. There was one family with at least five ducklings that looked almost full grown (you had to look closely to see that they were juveniles, but it was obvious at a distance from how they behaved) and another with some huge number (at least seven or eight) of yellow, fuzzy ducklings.
