Snippets from this Week

  • Giving a presentation in kaiwa class on the map I made during the visitor session last week. Watching the video of the presentation later was a bit embarrassing. I spoke really slowly during the presentation in order to get the grammar right. At least the visitors who evaluated me seemed to think my pronunciation was decent.
  • Far too much kanji. Three kanji quizzes this week.
  • Learning a lot of random grammar.
  • Explaining the meaning of the word "tricky" to one of the English majors.
  • A lot of Kyoko-san's part-time job money goes to paying for her pets (medical care for pets is more expensive here than medical care for people, the latter is subsidized by the state).
  • Apparently, Isamu hasn't been home at all for the past three days, and Kyoko-san hasn't heard anything from him either. She still set out dinner for him, even though she has no idea when/if he'll make it back home tonight. I don't think I fully understand the Japanese salaryman lifestyle...
I'll be doing some volunteer work for IES tomorrow (cleaning up a beach, followed by a barbecue lunch). On Sunday, Kyoko-san is going to visit her mom for Mother's Day, and I'll be coming along. I should get a little something for Kyoko-san as a Mother's Day gift.

I know that one alternative if you're out late enough that the subway's closed is to stay overnight in a capsule hotel. It's cheaper than taking a cab home, and apparently happens enough to support the capsule hotel industry. Three days seems a bit odd without warning, though... *shrug*

Kanji is just wrong, but it's for the betterment of mankind. XD
