The VP Gambit
McCain's chosen Sarah Palin the Governor of Alaska for his VP, taking the prediction markets by surprise. On the one hand, Palin is solidly conservative, and some might falsely assume that she can't be that bad on women's issues on account of being a woman herself. On the other hand, he's managed to choose someone less experienced than Obama, which may well undercut his message, and her anti-choice stance isn't likely to attract Hillary Clinton supporters.
Some have raised the possibility that we'll have the first female president after all, but McCain has only about a 15% chance of dying in the next four years, plus or minus the difference between McCain and the average American man his age.
(Also, there are allegations that Palin faked her last pregnancy to cover up the pregnancy of her teenage daughter. IANMTU.)
