Looks like Gustav dropped to cat-2 before making landfall. Some waves spilled over the levees, but the surge was well below and the levees held. The next two hurricanes aren't predicted to be nearly as dangerous. I feel that the US dodged a bullet this time.

I believe Gustav was barely a Cat3 when it first started making landfall, but quickly degraded to a Cat2. Now it's just a Tropical Storm. Hanna probably won't be very strong because Gustav's outflow boundary was keeping Hanna from developing and strengthening. As soon as Gustav weakened from landfall, Hanna quickly became a Cat1 hurricane. Hanna has the ability to strengthen to a Cat2/Cat3 before she makes landfall in the Carolinas. Ike still has a lot of open water to cross. It's too early to say just how strong that storm will be by the time it gets to the Caribbean...
