The New Machine

I was considering a $900 HP laptop for my upgrade, but then Newegg offered me a slightly better model (~$1100 direct from HP) for $800. The problem with such daily deals is that they're a bit of a pressure sell, but I ultimately decided to go with this one. It's a good deal, I did shop around, my experiences with Newegg have been uniformly positive, and having a new laptop will give me more peace of mind (since my Dell is 4 years old and out of warranty, with not the greatest history of reliability). I did fix the hinges on my current laptop, though, so it's still serviceable for now.

The relevant specs:
HP Pavilion DV5
OS: Vista Home Premium 64-bit (I've given in to the inevitable, but I'll probably make it dual-boot with Ubuntu 64-bit)
CPU: AMD Turion X2 Ultra ZM-80 2.1Ghtz
Screen: 15.4" WXGA, 1280 x 800, built-in webcam
Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200
RAM: 4GB, with enough slots for double that
HD: 320GB, 5400rpm
Optical Drive: DVD Super Multi
Wireless: 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN
Ports: 4 USB, VGA, HDMI, IR, 2 headphone, 1 mic, 1 expansion slot, card-reader
Size: 14.05" x 10.20" x 1.37-1.65", 5.84 lbs. (a little more hefty than my previous computer, but a reasonable tradeoff for the slightly better screen)
Warranty: 1 year limited (extended warranties were such a large percentage of the cost of the computer as to not be worth it)

In other news, I've been moved to the newly-renovated 9th floor at the ITA Office, but they somehow lost my filing cabinet during the move, which contained all my work-related stuff (mug, Ubuntu CD, important legal documents). All my former office-mates got all of their stuff, and I got all of my other stuff, so hopefully it will be found in not too long, but I hate it when my stuff is misplaced.
