Democracy

My absentee ballot came today, along with a Newsweek with the cover headline "Will Your Vote Be Counted?", which didn't exactly inspire confidence. For the most part, I voted straight ticket, and I felt bad that I hadn't taken the time to be an "educated voter." For many of the local positions, I really didn't know who the candidates were.

I also had totally forgotten about Ohio's intolerance amendment (banning gay marriage under any name). I voted against the amendment, but I'm worried that it might pass. Apparently, only a simple majority is needed to add it to the state constitution. *shudders* It just seems so against the grain of history. Amendments are almost always a sign of progress, so to see constitutional amendment being used in this manner seems so wrong. It's like a preemptive strike against freedom...
