Easy* Political Predictions

Seems 2024 Presidential Primary season is kicking off, with much ado about tons of candidates (mostly Republicans) who are not going to be the nominee this time. Okay, okay, with the front-runners being 80 and 76, there's always the possibility of a curve-ball, but absent that, Biden and Trump are going to be the nominees. ("Incumbent president doesn't get the nom" takes some real extraordinary circumstances, and it just wouldn't make sense for the Party of Trump to nominate someone else when the guy himself is on the menu.)

Another thing going on is the debate over the debt ceiling, and the easy prediction is that Congress will find their way away from the outcome that's obviously not in anyone's interest. Incurring obligations and then picking an arbitrary line for disorderly default is not a sane way to limit spending. The family-budget equivalent would be defaulting on your mortgage the moment your card is declined. But maybe the hard-liners will see enough of a silver lining in "everything blows up" that they'll actually find their way to doing it this time. Guess we'll see.
