The Practical Incarnation

So, the Planescape campaign met again today. This summary includes the last few sessions, which have been too in the middle of things for me to write an entry. Once again, I'll do this in character:

"We returned from Arborea, with the component Sanys needed for the spell to neutralize the evil Tome. However, the night after she began the spell we were attacked. At first, the party thought that the attacker was the Nameless One, the very one they seek to save. But apparently this is another incarnation of his, the Practical Incarnation, one that is evil. The Practical Incarnation took Grace hostage, and when I struck at him, I hit her instead. It is fortunate my blade is enchanted; it does not act as a deadly weapon unless I command it to do so.

We fought the Practical One for some time. He seemed incredibly strong and tough, healing his injuries as quickly as they were formed. However, the Dustman cleric was able to push through a Destruction spell, which seemed to destroy the Incarnation utterly.

I failed Sanys. I didn't think of her during the fight, didn't even think to call for help. When I looked around after the fight, Sanys had fallen, an evil-looking dagger in her back.

The tome was nowhere to be seen, at first, but then we saw an insubstantial version of the Tome where the original book had been. Alex, the odd human, phased into an incorporeal state and retrieved the book. Magical examination revealed a spell set into the floor of Sanys's sanctum, a teleportation contingency spell, set to activate if the Practical One became incapacitated. The spell appeared old: Either the 'Loths are attempting to sow distrust with an illusion, or we have a traitor in our midst. The second possibility, though... no, it is not possible. No celestial would stoop that low.

From what magic can tell us, it appears that the book we have now is fake, and the the real Tome has been captured by the Yugoloths (Neutral Evil fiends; viscious mercenary sorts). It is held in the Tower of the Arcanoloths, the center of their power on their home plane of Gehenna.

So, the party is split. Some of the party are heading to Gehenna to scout out information about the Tome.

The rest of the party, including myself, is heading to Sigil, to gather allies for the coming fight. If Shemeshka stole the Tome, well, then we must get it back. If she didn't steal it, then things are more complicated, but it's still a potentially fatal situation for us.

So far, the fiends are a step ahead of us. But it's good to have a real mission again."
