Getting Acquainted
Nordom's DnD campaign finally met again today. This entry contains plot from the last few sessions, but most of the plot is from the most recent one.
While the other half of the party went to retrieve the tome, our half of the party went to save Marissa, Ika's friend, who had been captured by Shemeshka, the King of the Cross-Trade. We figured that moving against Shemeshka would be more dangerous if we didn't negate her advantages as soon as possible. If she still had hostages, we'd be in a horrible bargaining position.
Marissa was held in a secret dungeon beneath The Wheel (a tavern, one of Shemeshka's favorite hangouts). Fortunately, one of the PCs, a dreamwalker, is a veritable font of secret information, so we already knew how to get to the dungeon.
It was Rumsiel's job to create a diversion, and he leads Shemeshka on a chase through the city (at this point, he's quite inebriated by the Chaos). (Apparently, Shemeshka becomes infuriated when a little puppy dog tries (rather vigorously) to get acquainted). Shemmy chases down the dog, is terribly incompetent with spellcasting, and kills a minion when they trip on their way out the door of the bar. When Shemmy finally realizes what's going on, Rumsiel mocks her by turning into chibi!Shemmy. Shemeshka is further embarrassed when she calls the guard, who are a bit incredulous at the notion that an archon attacked her without provocation (and probably more than a bit amused to see her so flustered).
Meanwhile, Ika, Grace, and Nordom enter the dungeon and find Marissa, who is badly injured. They also locate a magic mirror which is spying on them through Optix (a gear spirit carried by Nordom). Nordom and Optix figure out a way to turn this to their advantage by feeding the mirror false data. With some magical assistance, they yank Marissa's chains free, then exit the bar as quickly as possible.
Rumsiel, by that point, had teleported back to the bar. After making sure the party escaped safely, he sticks around just long enough to wave goodbye to Shemeshka as she returns.
Back at Grace's establishment, the party regroups. Grace begins to heal Marissa, and Marissa is happy to be reunited with Ika, although Ika feels guilty about not having rescued her sooner.
