More Unrelated Snippets
I spent quite a bit of time this week perusing this hypertext (there's no canonical entry point, of course, but that one is as good as any I've found) on cultural appropriation and its relation to speculative fiction. The Drama™ (rampant pantslessness! internet death!) aside, it contains a lot of good though on the subject, and I would recommend that writers of speculative fiction (especially) take at least a little time to examine it.
I went to see Waltz With Bashir tonight with Sunday Night Film Club, and DJ came along as well. I thought the film achieved its aims, a brilliant commentary on war and the dissociative state. (It was apparently hit-or-miss, though, at least one club member had a very low opinion, and there are some bits that are quite disturbing.)
There was some guy on the T today drinking mouthwash from the bottle, ranting incoherently, and possibly hallucinating. What is the appropriate way, I wonder, to interact with such an individual? Either way, I hope someone hauls the dude to an AA meeting, although I'd bet money he's been before and will be again.
