So, today was fun, my first work-free day since classes started. I went into town and hung out at MIT. I played some DDR (with some other people of a far more ridiculous skill level), then I spent a long time observing the Assassins Guild LARP (Live Action Role Play) that Xave ([livejournal.com profile] kihou) was playing in. The guild members are much less stupid than stereotypical LARPers as pictured in the media, focusing less on physical representations and constant in-character-ness and more on imagination, creativity, and good roleplaying.

The current game is a series of games set in the world of Conspiracy, with a variety of historical, fictional (from other sources), and original characters interacting in a very strange world. Xave's character is The Deadly Chun, a Superspy (technically, he's retired, but not even Fox Mulder would believe that) who grew up in pre-WWII Korea (he's a very fit old dude) who can wield any small item as a deadly weapon (he once killed somebody with a piece of chalk). Chun is also now a film star, as a contract (and a bad one on his part) that he signed while posing as Jackie Chan in an earlier game, is still legally binding (oops). In the game, the file has been bought by Disney (which made substantial changes), but the original director has been given one last chance to redeem his version of the film. I don't want to post too much here as this is public and the game isn't over yet, but, suffice it to say, there is a lot of weird stuff going on in the world, and the roleplaying was very entertaining to watch.

I hope Xave keeps good notes, so he can relate the whole story after the game is over... *bother*

On the way home, I got lost on the way back from the train station, and ended up calling a cab from the Wellesley Fire Station (they showed me a map, and I figured out what I had done wrong, but it would have taken a while to backtrack, and it was cold). The cab was expensive, but what can you do... *shrugs*

Also, I got my MP3 player working today (a Creative Nomad MuVo; I got it for being on the winning team in a computer programming competition last year (the team was me and Xave)). It's so nice. Life is better with a soundtrack. The thing eats batteries, though, so I'm going to have to buy some more.
