No On 8: Stand Against the Anti-Values Movement

I decided to donate my accumulated spare change to HRC for their fight against Prop. 8 in California. HRC is a good organization, and I really don't want to see another state write discrimination into their constitution.

It's not just about gay rights, or even equal rights in general. It's also about the idea that people should have lasting values at the core of their government, values that are not discarded as soon as they have some implication that someone doesn't like. There's a reason why the US Constitution requires a super-majority for amendment, even though the framers were in the midst of a crisis caused, in part, by a founding document too difficult to amend.

I have enough respect for California to believe that under half of the voters there are looking to tear up the constitution, throw out "equal rights", annul marriages and break up families. However, the bigot lobby has poured massive amounts of cash into this one, and their fear and misinformation campaign appears to be winning. I hold out hope that the truth will win out if people hear it, but TV advertising won't pay for itself.
