Just Watched the Inauguration
Jan. 20th, 2009 01:01 pmExcuse me, I seem to have something in my eye.
The various bits of art were quite inspiring, the crowd was impressive, Obama's speech was coherent and powerful (I was a little disappointed that he said "framework for growth" instead of "sustainability" or "prosperity" but you can't have everything), Rick Warren delivered a bland invocation that seemed to be playing the "how religious can I get to this invocation to be" game (the opposite of the game played by certain college chaplains; he even quoted the Lord's Prayer in its entirety), Joseph Lowery didn't snipe at Warren as much as I'd hoped but still made him look like a tool in comparison. Also Chief Justice Roberts misremembered the oath of office. How embarrassing.
