Like a Muddy Oak
Jul. 21st, 2019 03:16 pmWhat's happened in the last few weeks?
We did get the diaper bag back, with some help from one of the camp staff, who brought it back to Natick, and DJ, who couriered it into town. Good chance to catch up, so hopefully that can be arranged again without any near-disasters.
Another birthday went by for me. Turned an auspicious age, I suppose. Had some nice birthday celebrations, including a phenomenal dinner at Cafe du Pays (which was celebrating its own birthday).
The Google summer party was the past week, we took the kid to Canobie Lake Park for that. She really enjoyed being able to go on many of the kids' rides on her own. And the previous week my immediate team had a fun offsite to Kimball Farms with my former (now retired) grand-manager. I played some mini-golf with my colleagues (well enough to not totally embarrass myself, but still came in last in my group) and played some Pump It Up in the arcade (which made me miss having a DDR arcade machine nearby).
I've been feeling stressed about the level of mess around the house, but fixing that requires breaking out of the whirlpool of thoughts of "there's too much stuff" and getting to what are actually the highest-impact items for mitigation. I had some success there: I bought and assembled some new bookshelves for the kid's books, which made a big difference. Some of the childproofing has also started to come down in cases where that was getting in the way.
Eris has been going through a rough phase where the progress towards milestones of maturity is forward and back, mood is unstable, and cooperation can be hard to obtain. She's having a lot of fun a lot of time, though. And I get plenty of opportunities to work on my worst character flaw.
I am very happy to have air conditioning this weekend. That's my kind of wealth: Mansion and a yacht, no; fancy dinners and central air, yes.
Eristic improvements: Learning new exercises, more narrative imaginative play with characters, making new friends, jumping down unassisted, obtained stair access privileges.
