Newegg's promotions for this weekend are quite something (link may expire). A 1TB HD for $150? If I was building a box I'd be all over that. Not that anyone necessarily needs that much storage space, but historic predictions of how much space is "enough for everyone" have consistently been premature. I'm surprised at how fast the cost of storage is dropping. Our family bought our first computer a little more than a decade ago, when hard drives cost $200/GB, and now it's more like $0.15/GB.
(Is that really a 60% per year decrease? 200e^(-12*0.6) = 0.15, so that seems correct... Wow. No, that's totally wrong. The yearly multiplier is e^(-0.6) = 0.55, so it's a 45% decrease per year. Still impressive.)
