l33tminion: (Slip (Elan))
So yesterday was DnD (Rene's campaign). This was our first meeting online (our first since college started) and the session was pretty good, despite the slow pace of the plot.

In the game, Kent's condition is worsening (stupid psionic parasites), Slip is confused, and the group is trying to teach the young phanaton Leafblower how to deal with his newfound powers. On the plus side, this does give Kent a bit of an opportunity to shine, as he faced a similar predicament in his backstory, stuck with magic that was not exactly under control.

We didn't come closer to solving our big problems, but Slip's been thinking and remembering, and he thinks (or I think) that he has a solution, or at least some insight into the problem. We'll see how things work out, though.

Today was Coming Out day, run by Open Club, so in the spirit of honesty, I must tell you... that I'm straight. Er... surprise? *shrugs*

The club had food, music, and T-shirt making (with the usual pro-tolerance slogans). I made a shirt.

Late in the day, my group for the bottle rocket project did our first experiment (as we needed to do it for an assignment due tomorrow). The experiment, done after dark, involved sticking a force meter attached to our parachute out the window of a moving car, using the vehicle as a makeshift wind tunnel. Clearly, this was the most awesome experimental setup ever... but despite everything we still managed to get good data.

My absentee ballot came today, along with a Newsweek with the cover headline "Will Your Vote Be Counted?", which didn't exactly inspire confidence. For the most part, I voted straight ticket, and I felt bad that I hadn't taken the time to be an "educated voter." For many of the local positions, I really didn't know who the candidates were.

I also had totally forgotten about Ohio's intolerance amendment (banning gay marriage under any name). I voted against the amendment, but I'm worried that it might pass. Apparently, only a simple majority is needed to add it to the state constitution. *shudders* It just seems so against the grain of history. Amendments are almost always a sign of progress, so to see constitutional amendment being used in this manner seems so wrong. It's like a preemptive strike against freedom...
