This week we had all sorts of weather.

On an extremely foggy Tuesday, I took Erica and her friend George to a robotics night at the Somerville High School. Despite the fog, it was a pretty nice day, and the holiday lights in the neighborhood are really beautiful.

On Wednesday, there was pouring rain. One of the Big Dig tunnels flooded in downtown Boston, which was a bit of a mess.

This weekend, Julie and I took Erica to the Saturday matinee of The Nutcracker by the Boston Ballet. Was even better than I expected, and I expected it would be very good. The Ballet also has a pretty large children's ensemble, which they put to funny and adorable use in the performance.

Winter break fast approaches. Hard to believe the year is almost over.

The past week has been pretty good. Bouldering (still stuck mostly at v0+), dancing (Squares!), crazy-hard endurance circuits. Electric Six concert last Thursday, and have a date this Thursday with Jess, who I met at the concert. Went to the Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo on Saturday (local opening band Mighty Tiny also worth a listen), went to Psyforia/FWD Saturday night, enjoyed the late-night walk home. Sunday was epic: Brunch at Neighborhood, hanging with Ames and Owen, watching Catfish with Film Club (highly recommend that movie, though it was highly (intentionally?) mis-advertised).

I ordered all of Scott Pilgrim when it was heavily discounted on Amazon (got the entire series for ~$25 shipped free via subspace highway). Opened that package this morning, am already at the end of Volume 4.

I will be in DC for the rally October 30, plans have been made.

Yesterday, I ran into someone at the Diesel meetup who was going to the Contact Improv Jam that evening, and I wound up tagging along. Was intense, odd, and a lot of fun. The form itself is unusual, the jam sessions seem to use contact as a form of dancing meditation (in both the "general mind-focusing technique" sense and the "reflection on a topic" sense) as well as a form of social dance.

Today I went to medieval folk dancing again.

Friday I'll be dancing in the middle of Mass. Ave.

I stubbed my little toe a few days ago and thought that I'd fractured it. Since it's still way swollen, I'm guessing I was right. At least it doesn't hurt much...

I still went dancing today, but I left early (right after the lesson).

Today was initially pretty blah. However, I went swing dancing at MIT in the evening (at the urging of some Oliners). That completely turned my mood around. It was really wonderful. I wasn't the only beginner there, and people generally switched around, so I had no problem finding people to dance with.

After that, the rest of the evening went great. It's amazing how wonderful things are when I'm in a good mood.

(One random thing: Walking near Davis square at night, I heard loud birdcalls, with the type of call changing completely every three or four repetitions. Perhaps a very loud mockingbird was confused by the street lights and low-hanging clouds? Or maybe someone has a birds of the world car alarm...)
